Halloween can be a tricky time for some families. On one hand, it can be argued that Halloween celebrates ghouls and witches and all the things that are contrary to God. On the other hand, some families view it as just a fun day to dress up (and eat candy!).
I was a lot more careful when my kids were young. We had many conversations about what we believed and why. We carved pumpkins with crosses instead of scary faces. And, the kids dressed up in fun, non-creepy outfits.
Now, my kids are grown and they are finding their own ways to navigate Halloween with their kids. And, what they remember most about their childhood “Pumpkin Days” are the foods we made, the pumpkins they carved and the crafts we did. To them, Halloween meant time together creating family traditions and memories. We still make the same cupcakes we made every year, they still remember every unique pumpkin they ever created and every costume they ever wore.
