(UPDATED FOR 2021) Thanks to the Every Kid in a Park initiative, all fourth graders are eligible to receive a free National Parks Pass for use during the 2021-2022 school year. And as an added benefit, these passes ALSO entitle you to a free Christmas Tree permit at the nation’s national forests!
Make this year’s Christmas tree outing a real adventure by cutting down your own!
If you’ve got a fourth grader, the permit (and your tree) will cost you nothing. But if you DON’T have a fourth grader, your Christmas tree permit is only $10.
This is amazing, since Christmas trees at some u-cut farms can run well over $100.
If you’re interested in taking advantage of this deal, make sure you check with your local forest and ranger station about whether they’re participating, how you can access your Christmas tree permit, and their tree-cutting guidelines as participation, rules, and procedures vary by forest. Make sure you are contacting a national forest and NOT a national park (you can’t cut down trees in national parks).
If you’re interested, don’t delay – the number of permits available each year is limited. When they’re gone, they’re gone!
