Today’s challenge was to spend 10 minutes identifying my gifts, talents, and the things that I really love doing.
So often we get stuck comparing ourselves to other women. And I know I’m not the only one. Stephanie just wrote about the exact same thing! We spend so much time lamenting the fact that we’re not as put-together or talented as the other women we know – or maybe we waste our energy trying to be like them – that we lose sight of the things that we have been gifted with. We were all created differently, and our energy should be spent on areas where we’re gifted. That’s the best way to bless our families. Not by turning into the woman down the street.
This challenge was tough, I’ll admit it. Even though I was just making a list for my own eyes, it felt odd. We’re so accustomed to embracing humility and downplaying our strengths that writing them down – even just for myself – felt like boasting. I really need to keep this activity in mind and remember that I need to be thankful for my gifts and they should be honored – not ignored.
I won’t share my whole list, but I’ll share a few of my top ones.
- Cooking/managing meals for my family
- Budgeting/money management
- Writing
- Presenting/running workshops at work
