Today’s challenge was to spend 15 minutes tackling clutter in one area of my home.
Friends, I’ll be real here. This is my biggest struggle. I am a terrible housekeeper and I don’t pretend to be otherwise. I’ve gotten better over the years but it is a constant battle. I feel like my brain doesn’t scream at me that there is housework to be done, the thought of having a clean house doesn’t motivate me, I can’t develop effective organizational systems, and half the time I don’t even know what types of chores I should be doing. Lately it’s been one of my very top priorities – to get myself to a place where I have a consistent housekeeping routine that keeps the chaos at bay.
For me, this challenge was welcomed and timely. I chose to work on my daughter’s closet. Let’s take a peek, shall we?
We all know that summer doesn’t just show up overnight. It comes and goes for about two months, so changing out the wardrobe isn’t practical until the temps start staying consistently above 50 degrees. {You know, mid-June.} Meanwhile, at 18 months she’s still in that phase where I need to go through her clothes every 3 months to see what she’s outgrown. So even though this looks haphazard, there is a method to the madness. Summer clothes are on top of the wardrobe. Other clothes are in the bins. However, I will concede that they had gotten overloaded and pretty messy.
So I worked on this mess during naptime, and the result is a much neater, more organized closet.
Clothes are much easier to find, I discovered that I don’t need to buy her nearly as many things as I thought {there were some cute things buried under that disaster!} and having Brynna’s closet organized will probably even save me a couple of minutes each morning.
In fact, now I’m motivated to tackle some of my other problem areas – like my pantry, bathroom drawers, canning cabinet, garage storage, freezer, dresser, Conlan’s clothes…
