*UPDATE: Unfortunately, it has been brought to our attention that this movie has not fully re-edited.* READ OUR IMPORTANT UPDATE!
Earlier this week we shared an article on our Facebook page about the newly-released movie Show Dogs. It’s a fun kids’ movie that had one element that was completely inappropriate.
This essay on the website Macaroni Kid by mom Terina Maldonado went viral, detailing the offending scenes and how they normalized techniques that could be used to help sexual predators groom children. There was discussion about touching private parts and how the dogs needed to go to their “zen place” (ie, practice dissociation) to get through the uncomfortable process.
Though this may be a regular practice in dog shows, it has no place in a kid’s movie where the kids are identifying with the animals.
Well moms, Hollywood took notice.
The production company behind Show Dogs, Global Road Entertainment, has issued an apology and is re-editing the movie to remove the inappropriate scenes, with the new version available in theaters this weekend.
In part, their statement reads:
Responding to concerns raised by moviegoers and some specific organizations, Global Road Entertainment has decided to remove two scenes from the film SHOW DOGS that some have deemed not appropriate for children.
The company takes these matters very seriously and remains committed to providing quality entertainment for the intended audiences based on the film’s rating. We apologize to anybody who feels the original version of SHOW DOGS sent an inappropriate message.
I love it when people do the right thing and think they deserve credit. They may have used poor judgement initially, but I love that they’re making it right and they deserve just as much publicity for this as they got earlier this week.
So spread the news!
