If you are reading this blog I’m going to make the acute observation that you are a mom. And there is a season in your life where this role defines everything you do.If you applied for a job during this season, your resume might read:
Room mom.
Carpool mom
Referee mom
Homework mom
Meal mom
Potty training commando-if-necessary mom
Social media guard dog mom
Bedtime czar mom
And a million other mom jobs sandwiched in between.
You are actually an expert in everything. And you never ever EVER go off the clock.
But I want to say
Being a mom may be everything you do.
But it’s not everything you are.
You have a story of your own.
I’m guessing there have been good chapters and bad chapters, and you’ve read any of my previous blogs, you know that my book speaks to the bad chapters.
But I’ve been speaking mainly about Faith in the Dark with your kids.
Now I want to say a few words to you.
First of all, if (or when) you’re in a season that makes you want to crawl back into bed in the morning, but you can’t because you have little people begging for your constant care, allow me to speak into your life.
YOU ARE MY HERO.
And I think you are God’s hero too.
Being in a rough season is bad enough, but being a mom in a rough season is REALLY HARD. And I believe God gives special grace (and maybe even door prizes in heaven) for moms in that place.
So know He loves you. Even when it doesn’t feel like it.
Second, if this season feels like forever, know that when you look back it will literally feel like a BLINK of an eye.
God’s timing is like that (2 Peter 3:8)
SO slow going through it, CRAZY fast when we look back.
I also want you to know that things are happening right now IN you that are SO important to your spiritual growth… you are learning to serve when you don’t feel like it, and give when there is nothing in you to give.
Oddly, it’s those times when we can experience God’s presence most. (2 Cor.12:9)
You won’t forget this season Mom. And you’ll draw from it in the future when you are in another season when you can’t get out of bed.
You’ll remember you did it once.
And you’ll do it again.
Finally, God isn’t finished with your story.
If you got up this morning, and you are breathing, He’s not done.
This is just a chapter. It’s not your whole life.
Lean into it, live it, and breathe in your kids because someday they will be teenagers and their life goal will be to get as far from you as humanly possible.
Soak in those cuddles and tears while you get them.
You won’t regret it.
So God bless you, Mom, in your story RIGHT NOW.
And God bless you sister, in the story He is writing with your life.
My prayer is that my book can be a companion to you when you are going through IT.
And we all know what IT is.
And know that if your story feels impossible, the one thing I’ve learned about God stories is… the harder, the better.
And the more challenges, the more it will be used.
