I have a problem with Crowder’s new album, “I Know A Ghost”
It’s too good.
You know those songs that come on the radio and they’re just so amazing that you have to sit down, shut your eyes and let the words and music sink into your soul? Well, there are too many of those songs on “I Know A Ghost.” Seriously, I had planned to just quickly scan through the songs. Instead, I somehow ended up sitting through the whole album, drinking in the lyrics and the music.
It’s no secret that I love Crowder’s music. I used to wonder why he resonates so deeply with me and one word kept popping into my head: “troubadour”. I finally looked up the definition and it said: “A lyrical poet composing and singing, especially on the theme of love”. So perfect. Because, Crowder’s songs do tell stories about the greatest love the world has ever known.
Yes, they’re love songs. But, after that they’re undefinable. Country? Folk? Bluegrass? Indy? Or, even a bit of Rap? How about all of the above and more? That’s one of the things I love about Crowder’s music. It breaks down the lines between genres. He’s a chameleon who can’t be stuck into one tidy box. And, yet somehow he manages to reach us all despite our different tastes in music.
I once heard him say that he’s happiest gathering a bunch of mismatched musicians together and playing music on the porch. Well, that’s what this album is all about; David and friends (including Mandisa!) coming together and doing what they do best. And, out of that merging of talents has come amazing songs that will touch and surprise you.
You know how on every album you have a favorite song, one you could listen to on repeat? Well, I wanted to find my favorite song on “I Know a Ghost.” So, I wrote out the sixteen song titles (yes, SIXTEEN) and decided to put a little heart by the songs I really liked. That didn’t work. By the end of the album my page was filled with hearts. So much for finding a favorite. What I did find however was that this album is a must have for your music library. Seriously, it’s a gem.
We are excited to also tell you that we have ten copies to give away! And, if that isn’t wonderful enough, one grand prize winner will win $150 towards their Thanksgiving grocery list! How awesome is that?! “I Know A Ghost” will fill your soul and the grand prize winner will get their tummy filled too!
