Have you discovered James L. Rubart yet in the fiction aisle? I tend to end up with a bunch of nonfiction books on my reading list, but I love a good fiction book. I find that it just transports me to another place and rests my brain.
(Fun fact: There is a character in his book “Rooms” named Rebecca that he once told me was named after me!)
Quite a few years ago, James L. Rubart was doing a speaking gig with our staff and he was talking about the names that God gives us. We were challenged to ask God for our true name. I found myself praying about this and pondering it. There aren’t too many times in my life when I can say I clearly felt God speaking to me, but this was one of those moments. He clearly said to me, “Your name is builder.”
What is a person supposed to do with that? Builder? With no idea what it meant, I just tucked it away.
It became clear a few years later when I started stepping into managing content and social media and helping to build this community here at AllMomDoes. Builder. Building community. Building relationships. Building content. The name Builder wasn’t the name I knew I needed, but God knew. He knew what was inside of me, even when others around me weren’t sure. What is the name God gave you? Ask him!
I always say it is so nice as you get older because you feel like you can really truly embrace who you were meant to be. I know we need the experience of being younger and learning all the lessons along the way, but it is truly a gift when you step into God’s plan for your life. I’m so grateful for the seminar I once attended with James L. Rubart so I know I always have to pick up a new book when I see it has James L. Rubart’s name on it! I know it will never disappoint. (Isn’t it funny how one moment in time can have such an influence on your life? Do you have any of these moments?)
Back to the book…James L. Rubart’s newest book “The Pages of Her Life” hits bookshelves on May 21st. I was able to get an advanced copy of this book to review and I’m so excited that I did. As with all his books, you are going to want to pick up a copy. If you haven’t yet, I suggest reading “Rooms” to prepare for this book since some of the characters intertwine. I personally love when books do this. (You’ll love “Rooms” too!)
I love the deeper messages and the thought-provoking characters I always find in his books. Everything and everyone has a purpose. I love that he tackles issues we are all currently facing and you will always find yourself a better person after reading his books. You will take elements of the story and immediately be able to apply them to your own life, growing in the process.
James L. Rubart does what I think every fiction writer should do, create a story that is so relatable and so compelling, you don’t want to put it down, but when you do the characters, messages and themes imprint themselves on your heart and you are better for it.
