It is Sunday morning and we are on Highway 7 in Arkansas heading north, toward home. It hasn’t even been 48 hours since we were on this same stretch of road, on our way to Cedar Springs Cabin. But we are leaving so much more rested and relaxed that it seems we must have had more time than we actually did. When we left home Friday morning, we knew we would have a nice time on our little get-away, but our trip has exceeded our expectations.
I found Cedar Springs Cabin online about 10 days ago. It was a last-minute idea for my husband and I to take a long weekend. When it looked as if it might work out for us to get away (thanks mom and dad for watching our kids and shuttling them to their required activities) I promptly started searching for a cool place that was within driving distance of southwest Missouri. We tend to prefer staying in unique places. Last year for our anniversary we stayed in a yurt. We’re weird like that. When I stumbled upon Cedar Springs and saw that they had an actual full-sized teepee and a buried bus theater on the property, I figured I had found a winner. Quirky, unique, right up our alley. I spoke with Monica, the owner, and was thrilled to find our dates were available!!
As we pulled into the driveway, we quickly realized there was more to this place than just quirkiness. The cabin was gorgeous! Upon our arrival at Cedar Springs, we met the owner who gave us a brief tour of the cabin and the surrounding property. Walking into the cabin, the enchanting smell of cedar welcomed us. The interior of the cabin was filled with fun, custom pieces. Light fixtures, side tables, cabinets, the master bed, and the living room sofa were all custom made. The décor lent itself to the cabin feel and was very comfortable, tasteful, and inviting.
Once the owner left, we wasted no time checking things out for ourselves. We took a soak in the hot tub and enjoyed a nap on the outdoor, swinging bed. About that outdoor bed: it was AMAZING! It has Bluetooth speakers as well as a fan and a couple of heaters. I ended up spending much time there reading or napping or just watching the fire roar in the outdoor fireplace. We had steaks for dinner, prepared on the grill. We didn’t have to look far to find all we needed to make our dinner, the kitchen had it all. Then we headed down to the buried bus and were excited to find that we had access to Netflix and could catch up on our shows. The TV filled the front of the bus and the sound was incredible. There was an air conditioner and a heater, a microwave and a minifridge. The beanbag chairs were surprisingly comfortable.
The following morning, we took a walk on the trail that meanders along the 6 acres that Cedar Springs Cabin sits on. The hike is steep, but doable. Then we spent time in the game area. We played tetherball, ring toss, horseshoes, and corn hole. We felt like kids and remarked that our 4 kiddos would have an absolute blast. We enjoyed our lunch on the outdoor swing and indulged in another nap. We left for a bit to check out downtown Hot Springs but came back in time to grill burgers for dinner. We then wrapped up the evening back on the swing, me finishing my book and Eli munching on some popcorn that the owners had provided.
We awoke today refreshed and anxious to see our kids. We are already dreaming of our next trip to Cedar Springs and hope to bring the kiddos with us. We are certain they will love Cedar Springs just as much as we have!!
