Like a child, I was giggling as I faced down, and was hanging over the hammock to capture a not so flattering picture. I wanted to take a “selfie” of the sky above me as my face looked down into the lens of my phone. It was a funny attempt to look like I was flying. And let me tell you, I did almost fly, but not in the way I wanted as I was almost catapulted out of that darn thing. In that instance, I was hilariously attempting to capture and convey perspective.
It led to a greater desire to want to know God more. I long for that ability for Him to live from above and not beneath. There’s this angst to not just live from and operate from a place of where I am circumstantially; but from where I am in Him; like a beautiful aerial view.
If I allow “where I am” to tell me “who I am,” then I have chosen the lie. Whether it’s a successful place; a place of loss; a place of nothing going right; or everything going smoothly; all those things are subject to change. We don’t want to change from our life’s circumstances, but change into who we were meant to be in the midst of the happenings of life.
Those wavering moments are not to ever determine who we are; they only show the opportunities at hand. The opportunity to remember I am a daughter of God, not an orphan. And as a daughter, I have cause for great joy especially in times of trouble. Trouble isn’t the author of my life; Jesus is. Trouble, heartache and brokenness are not the narrators; God is!
From that sweet picture I captured, I was reminded that Jesus is our Joy in the trouble; He is the Healer in the midst of heartache and He is Wholeness to the brokenness. Will you or I allow the things that were done to us to trump what God has done? Let’s get back into our places and positions as Sons and Daughters. We have a “Get to” opportunity to respond to God in the midst, and our responses are what the world is watching.
Let’s talk about this: Are you letting your moments mold you into who you were never meant to be? Are you changing according to what is going on with you? Let me encourage you. I want to remind you, “You are Daughter. You are Light. You are Salt. Go do by standing in Who God is as you shine, whether you are multi-tasking meals while calming a baby’s cry, or reassuring yourself that you’ll make it through another day; whatever the moment, the light in you shines with your gentle touch, and sweet whispers of hope into your family, as the salt of who you are preserves what would naturally decay.
