I live in a state where masks are now required pretty much everywhere. And, as if our world wasn’t separated into factions before, it certainly is now.
There are pro-mask people and there are anti-mask people. Each group is convicted that they are right and that the other group is wrong. And, both sides have really valid points to make.
My pro-mask friends are sure that they are keeping themselves and their loved ones safe by wearing a face covering. They feel that it is a small price to pay to stop the spread of this weird virus that has invaded our world.
My anti-mask friends have varied reasons for not wearing one: They don’t believe masks are effective. They value their freedom and don’t want the government dictating to them. They feel that by blindly following this controversial government rule, we are one step closer to accepting the sign of the beast (Revelations 13:16-17).
I tend to want everyone to be happy, so although I don’t like it, I slap on a mask whenever the rules say I should. My husband, however, is a whole other story.
We here at allmomdoes chatted the other day and found that we were all having issues with the men in our lives. They do not want to wear masks! Here’s how our conversation went:
SHE: “Jesus would wear a mask to show love to his neighbors.”
HE: “I got my mask!”
SHE: “Jesus said to lay down your life for your friends. So, even if you think wearing a mask will kill you, you have no excuse.”
HE: “I’m going to buy a Friday the 13th mask and go shopping with the dude in the donkey mask.”
SHE: “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.”
HE: “Unless Caesar is a dork.”
SHE: “Obey the government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow up to and including death from the coronavirus!” (Modified Romans 13:1-2)
HE: “Fine, I’ll wear a mask … on my elbow!”
We were getting nowhere, so I field-tested my obstinate husband and took him to our favorite restaurant. My husband agreed to bring a bandana he wears when he rides his motorcycle. It was a small victory and I took it.
I walked in first and made the mistake of not turning back to babysit him. When we got inside I saw he was wearing the “mask” on the top of his head. Our favorite waitress walked up and said, “You have to wear a mask.” To which my hubby replied, “I AM wearing a mask.” I walked to the table and pretended I didn’t know him. When it was time to leave I said, “Listen, you could get the restaurant shut down by not obeying the rules.” He responded with a sullen, “Fine.” When I turned back to check on him, this is what I found:
Our waitress rolled her eyes. So did I.
So, how about you? Are you having issues with the men in your life? Or, maybe like some of us you are having issues with obeying the rule yourself?
We’d love to hear your kind and loving tips on this subject. Or, send us your favorite mask pictures! We all have our points of view and maybe through some humor and a whole lot of love, we can feel united once again.
Remember, we here at allmomdoes love you all.
