It seems I daily ask myself some questions that rarely crossed my mind until recently. What Next? What will happen today? Will tomorrow be better? What will tomorrow hold for my family? As we navigate these times of great uncertainty, we are having to ask questions that were never on our mind before March of 2020. This current pandemic is a challenge for so many but is also an opportunity because it has given us a reason and a cause to reflect on our greatest assets. For the vast majority of us, our greatest asset is our children. And a large part of our reflection is on how we will protect and educate these precious assets.
As a former President of a private Christian school and head of the National Christian School Association, I came to realize that parents brought their children to a Christian school for two reasons.
- They greatly valued the spiritual influence that would be cast upon their child’s life daily.
- They wanted to take them out of a public school that was entirely too large and one that had to focus on the total population in every decision.
Public school has a daunting task of educating the masses and now has the challenge of doing so in a more diverse manner causing families to be hesitant in sending their children to school. Looking to ensure that their child’s educational needs are met and seeking a safe environment is driving many families to take another look at private Christian education.
This week the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a statement endorsing the physical presence of students in school. They stressed, “the fundamental role of schools is to provide academic instruction, social and emotional skills, safety, nutrition, physical activity, and mental health therapy.” AAP News and Journal, June 26, 2020. Many aspects of a child’s education cannot be delivered online. Finding the right setting for your child’s education is more important now than ever.
I encourage you to take a close look at a private Christian school like Brentwood Christian School in Austin, Texas. Even during quarantine, BCS continued to provide daily lessons and interaction with the teacher, new material so their students were challenged and advanced with grades. They are ready and prepared for whatever the next school year will bring. They are providing world-class education in a setting where the safety and education of your child is their only goal. Is it worth your investment? Now, more than ever, we need to protect and grow our greatest asset, our kids.
