Let’s face it, we’re all getting tired of all the rules and isolation that this Covid virus has brought. With all the uncertainty, a lot of people are dealing with the blues (depression is a more serious issue and will be addressed in future blogs).
Here’s a list of easy ways to brighten your mood during these stressful times:
- Go for a walk – being outside has been proven to elevate your mood.
- Take a bubble bath – light some candles, shut your eyes and relax.
- Watch your favorite movie – the sillier, the better.
- Read a novel – put away your nonfiction and grab a guilty-pleasure book.
- Music – put on music from your heyday and dance like no one is watching.
- Buy flowers – buy yourself a bouquet, drink in the scents and the beauty.
- Lay down – play soft music and lay down, even a few minutes helps.
- Indulge – treat yourself to a yummy meal or dessert, don’t feel guilty.
- Go to bed early – who cares is you fall asleep right away? Enjoy the rest.
- Visit the beach – listen to the sounds of the water.
- Drink water – fill a pitcher with fruit and water and drink a few glasses.
- Light a candle – find one with a scent you love.
- Stretch – lay on the floor and gently stretch the beautiful body you have.
- Make a mixed CD – take a drive and play it. Sing loudly.
- Have a smoothie – drink it in a special glass while you sit for a minute.
- Youtube – search funny videos and laugh.
- Phone a friend – reminiese about the fun times you’ve had.
- Wrap yourself in a soft blanket – pretend it’s a hug from a loved one.
- Open the blinds – sunlight is so healing.
- Wake up and get dressed – being dressed changes your attitude.
- Pajama day – or, stay in your PJs for a day.
- Send a card to a special friend – tell them how much they mean to you.
- Give yourself a facial – add a mani/pedi if you feel like it.
- Learn something new – watch online videos on how to do a craft you’ve always wanted to try.
- Unplug for the day – take a social media break and focus on you.
- Watch the sunrise or sunset – with no screen distractions.
- Eat to–go food all day – don’t cook (yes, there are healthy options).
- DON’T HOLD YOURSELF TO THE HIGH STANDARDS YOU HAD BEFORE ALL THIS STARTED!
That last one is the most important “blues-buster” of all. These are hard times. Allow yourself some grace!
