As she was lying down in the hospital bed, my daughter, Trissy, began laughing as she said, “Well mom. This is a September to Remember.” We began reminiscing about our conversation we had a few days before the car wreck where she had said, “Mom, I just feel God’s going to do something so amazing this month.”
My daughter was in a very serious car accident and the days that followed humbled us. It immediately removed the misconception that we somehow have any control over our lives. We are thankful God is the author of everything.
A scripture that Trissy has found great comfort in is from Romans 11:33-36, “𝗢𝗵, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱! 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁! “𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱? 𝗢𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿?” “𝗢𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝗺?” 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿. 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻.” This led me to think of Isaiah 55:8-9, “𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀, 𝗡𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗠𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀,” 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱. “𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵, 𝗦𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀.”
We made the decision during these moments of immense pain and uncertainy to use the opportunity for great joy. It has been a moment to declare His goodness. To show Him off Who is our Joy! I tell you what, to be a firsthand witness of Trissy’s ability to trust and believe God through the discomfort and at times, throbbing pain…and yet she chooses the grace of God to highlight gratefulness through the tears. There’s this deep well of knowing that God leads her into a laughter that is not of this world. A glory laugh that leads us to know how good He is.
Meanwhile we are now even looking at this hospital/rehabilitation stay as staying at the Ritz Carlton. We have laughed and said, “Let’s make these moments intentional memories of joy.” We thought, “My goodness! The nurses beg you to let them help you. They even wipe your booty and help in ways you could not imagine.” LOL! God has allowed laughter to be our instrument of praise to Him.
If you are in a similar situation today may I remind you that God can use any situation for his glory. You and I may not understand why we are where we are, but I believe that is WHY God bids us to draw near to Him so when trouble comes, we know His voice to trust him to fill us with his Joy. With him anything is possible.
