The state of Washington requires people to wear face coverings in public spaces.
Masks show compassion.
Wearing a face covering shows you care about the people around you. Face coverings limit the transmission of droplets that could spread COVID-19.
Droplets spread when you talk, laugh, sneeze, or breathe. You could have the virus that causes COVID-19 and not know it. A face covering also offers protection from receiving droplets from others. So, wear a mask to protect your loved ones and your neighbors.
Children age 2-4 should only wear a face covering with adult supervision. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you care for your cloth mask to make sure it is staying clean and doing its job.

Always Remember
- Wear your mask over your nose and your mouth.
- Avoid touching your face or face covering.
- Don’t use a ripped or torn face mask.
- Wash your hands before and after you touch your face covering.
- Wash your face covering daily.
- Don’t store in a purse or pocket.
For Kids
- Coach your kids to avoid touching their face covering.
- Don’t let them store it in their pocket.
- Wash your mask after every use.
You’ll want more than one face mask available for every member of your family. It’s likely one will get dirty and you may not have time to wash it before using it again. You can also keep a pack of disposable masks on hand.
Washing Reminders
- Launder after each use
- Wash in the hottest water possible
- Dry with the highest heat possible
- Ensure your mask is completely dry after being laundered before wearing it again.
