Today, I did a really fun edible craft with two of my grandkids. We had a blast and it was easy and relatively mess-free.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Oreos (regular or fudge dipped)
- Candy melts in white and green
- Sprinkles
- Candy stars
- Pretzel sticks (optional)
- Parchment or waxed paper
Line a cookie tray with parchment paper and lay out your Oreos (my granddaughter had fun just stacking the cookies and making them into different shapes).
Then, we melted the white candy melts in a microwave safe dish (deeper is better). Make sure you melt the candies on 50% power or you’ll end up with a lumpy mess. Then, dip the bottom third of each cookie into the melted chocolate and place them on the cookie sheet to dry (it only takes a minute).
Melt the green candy melts and spoon the melted chocolate into a Ziploc sandwich bag (put it all into one corner, if possible). Snip the teeny-tiniest bit off of the corner and squeeze it out into the shape of a tree (mommy did this part). Put a candy star on top of the tree and decorate the trees with sprinkles.
Voila! Pretty little Christmas cookies.
We had leftover melted chocolate and so we squeezed it onto stick pretzels to make trees. The kids decorated these too. They would be darling on a cake or just to eat as a sucker.
This is a really fun activity without a lot of prep work for mom. It lasted just long enough to keep them entertained before boredom set in. Have fun!
