We need each other if we are going to make it through the next year stronger. The world we are living in is more disconnected than ever. However, we can all put into practice some of these unique and fun ways to connect with your family and friends while staying safe! It will lift your spirit and theirs and give you a much-needed boost of joy.

Parking Lot Coffee Meet Up
I miss coffee dates. I used to go for a coffee run when I worked in the office and it was such a nice time to connect with my coworkers outside the office. Same with friends. Since we can’t currently go sit in restaurants or at coffee shops, plan a parking lot coffee meet up! Make it fun, have a positive attitude, get your favorite cup of coffee and just be together. I personally suggest heading to your favorite local Woods Coffee because their vanilla lattes are my favorite. Get a monster cookie to go with it. Sounds like the perfect afternoon pick me up!
Potluck Grab & Go
I know a lot of friends who put together a grab & go type potluck for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Everyone made some food and then they met up at one location to swap. While it wasn’t a long meeting, it was a fun way to make a new tradition and see others in person. This would be a fun thing to do with some friends on a rotating basis! Each of you can make something, meet up at an outdoor spot to do the swap and say hi!
Say Hi to Your Neighbors More Often
You are at home. They are at home. It’s a simple way to build relationship with those around you. Make the point of saying hi when you see your neighbors outside, when you pass by on the way to the mailbox, or when they are pulling out of the driveway. We have been doing this during quarantine and it has been a nice way to start building more community with them. This is a great time to meet your neighbors!
Meet Up At the Park
Plan a park meetup. We do this with some friends and it’s fun to get out of the house. The park makes it easy to social distance, you can wear your favorite mask, and the kids can get their energy out. Extra bonus is that you get some fresh air which is an extra added bonus for your mental health!
Doorstep Surprise
We watched a movie on Netflix this year called The Christmas Project. Basically, a family adopts someone and leaves surprise gifts on their doorstep all Christmas season. I think this could be really fun to do with friends and family, but not as a surprise. Plan a day and text your friends to make sure they are home (where else would they be?) then deliver them dinner or a fun surprise. You can chat awhile on the doorstep and you’ll feel good doing something out of the ordinary. It will be a blessing for your friend as well. Then encourage them to spread the love and do a doorstep surprise to someone they know! A fun way to connect and spread some love. I would encourage you to include a Woods Coffee in the surprise!
Being an introvert has made quarantine a little more bearable for our family, however, even I am missing the interaction of people in my life. It’s hard to stay connected over technology and I find my brain wearing out from all the mental stimulation online. Take intentional steps to build in some touch points into your life this year and it will bring you the perk you need. Let’s all make an effort to spread a little extra joy this year!
