These cake balls are soooooo easy and GREAT to make with kids. Plus, you can decorate them for any occasion! Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Fourth of July…you get the idea. My daughter and I made these, and when she shared them with her friends their eyes lit up and they said, “I’m never getting a cake pop from Starbucks again!” If THAT’S not a rave review from a kid…I don’t know what is.
Now, a bit of a disclaimer: These cake balls are “no-bake” but you DO need to heat treat the cake mix and flour in advance. I mean…it’s kind of an optional step but not really. There have been E. coli outbreaks linked to raw flour so it’s best to heat treat it from a food safety standpoint. Learn more about that here.
Now, back to the fun stuff. Cake balls!
No-Bake Cake Balls
Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups yellow cake mix (to use a whole box, simply double this recipe)
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup butter (softened and cut into smaller pieces)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 Tb sprinkles + more for decorating
- vanilla candy coating (or candy melts of your color choice)
Combine cake mix and flour on a rimmed baking sheet. Heat treat at 350 degrees for about five minutes until it reaches 165 degrees. Break up any lumps (sift if desired), and allow to cool.
Mix together treated flour mixture, butter, sugar, and vanilla. It’s easiest to mix with (clean) hands.
Roll into balls, dip in melted candy coating, and set on parchment-lined baking sheet. Top with sprinkles immediately and allow to harden.
