During a recent sleepover, my granddaughter and I made lip gloss. It turned out to be the perfect project to do together. It was quick and easy and the results were perfect.
Here’s what we did:
I gathered all the necessary ingredients ahead of time. I made it easy on myself and ordered them all online. I’ve included all the links (I am not sponsored).
- A glass one cup measuring pitcher (I bought mine at a thrift store)
- A skewer for stirring
- Beeswax pellets
- Organic almond oil
- Peppermint essential oil (or another scent)
- Lip gloss containers
- An old lipstick (optional; for tinted lip gloss)
Instructions:
- Take the lids off your containers and have them lined up and ready. We put waxed paper underneath, just in case.
- Put 1 Tablespoon beeswax and 2 Tablespoons of almond oil (NOT almond extract) into your glass measuring cup. Microwave for 30 seconds, remove and stir. Microwave for another 10 seconds (depending on your microwave) and add the essential oil and a small slice of lipstick (if you want colored lip gloss). Stir vigorously until the lipstick melts. Note: we doubled the recipe, so yours might melt quicker than ours did.
- Pour the melted balm into each jar. The wax sets up quickly. If this happens before you can pour it all, simply microwave for a few seconds until it melts again.
- Let the balm set and then screw on the lids. You could make labels for the tops (Avery makes circle stickers) or my granddaughter used a paint pen to write the first initial of her friends’ names on top.
Since we doubled the recipe, it made 25 jars of lip balm!
If you do not add color, this works great for cuticle cream too.
This would be a perfect sleepover craft. You could make a few batches of different colors and scents and the kids could design their own labels.
Have fun!
