I stand in the same place in my baby’s room every single day. Carpet that’s just a few years old has spots worn where my feet are always planted. As I stand, I sway back and forth, while I sing to her the same songs that I’ve sang to each of our kids. These are the same songs that my mom sang to me.
The first time I sang ‘Jesus Loves Me’ to my first baby, he was only a few days old. The room was dark and quiet. As my voice rang out for that first time, it shook. The quiet, the swaying, the dark and my shaky voice— I’ll never forget that first song.
Motherhood has taught me so much about love. It’s safe to say that until I became a Mom, I really didn’t fully understand love. Maybe I knew about love, but I didn’t fully understand how sacrificial love really is. I don’t think I understood how all of the small things add up to become the big things that really matter. I didn’t understand how little nags all day long can tear a person down or how little acts of continuous love can build a person up.
As we enter February, I’m looking for little ways that I can show my favorite people how much I love them. All month long, I want to fill their love tanks, it tiny little ways that show them how the celebration of Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be a one day thing. I want to celebrate real, true, brave and big LOVE all month long.
These Marshmallow Hearts are a simple way to say “I love you”. They make an ordinary cup of hot chocolate seem special and they’re really simple to make.
To Create Your Own Heart Shaped Marshmallows:
- Melt a bunch of mini marshmallows in the microwave. Make sure you turn the power down to about 30% so they actually melt (otherwise they will just get huge).
- While they’re melting, grease a heart shaped cookie cutter and put it on a plate covered in waxed paper.
- After the marshmallows are melted, pour them into the greased cookie cutter and put sprinkles on top. I melted quite a few marshmallows so I could also made some other fun shapes (not pictured).
- Into the freezer the marshmallow shapes go. After they chill for awhile, they are pretty easy to remove from the cookie cutters. Using a butter knife dipped in hot water worked great for me.
