Plenty of things on the back-to-school list don’t leave much room for individuality. Wide-ruled paper, No. 2 pencils, and a 10-pack of fine-tipped markers are basically the same for every student. But there are a few areas where your child can let their personality shine. Here are some back-to-school items we love!

Masks: Many kids will be masking this year, and fall is the perfect time to replenish your mask supply. There are a TON of adorable options, but comfort is paramount. Experienced moms identified that their kids loved the following masks the most:
- Crayola
- Adidas
- 32 Degrees (available at Costco)
- Disposables (this type is cute AND disposable!)
- Old Navy
- Grove Collaborative
Mask Lanyard: If your child is masking, you don’t want them to drop or lose their mask during lunch or recess. A cute lanyard keeps it close!
Mask Holder: Okay, this is our final mask-related suggestion. Older kids probably won’t want lanyards, but a mask holder can help them keep a few extras handy in case one gets lost.
Ruler: These jewel-toned rulers and bright and different. Or, if your child is prone to breaking their ruler, I love a stainless steel option! I haven’t had to buy my son a new ruler in several years because it’s held up.
Pencil Case: How fun is this race-car-shaped pencil case? Or this unicorn ZipIt option?!?
Lunch Box: BentGo has long been a parent-approved brand for lunches.
Laptop-Friendly Backpack: If your child has a school-issued or personal laptop that they tote to and from school, it’s worth it to invest in a backpack designed with extra padding.
Back-to-School t-shirt: There are so many cute back-to-school options for your sassy school-ager!
Backpack Clips: Decorative clips and keychains are still popular. Surprise your child with a brand-new one to adorn their bag on the first day of school. Choose one that’s a fluffy pom, an initial, this cute hamster, an Among Us character, this Golden Snitch from Harry Potter, or (dare I suggest) a mini bubble-pop fidget toy.
