We are sharing a series of blogs focused specifically on praying over the new school year. For the next 10 days we will be praying over parents, teachers, administrators, support staff and students. Please share your prayer in the comments or join us on Facebook to post your prayer there!
Father God:
We thank you for the time that you have given us during these months to renew our energy, refresh our spirit, and the extra time that we had with family and friends, and opportunity to reflect on what is important.
As the summer fades away and a new school year begins, we pray for a smooth transition to the new routine. This new school year will feel brand new again as parents are heading to work in the office and some students are back to school for the first time in almost 18 months. Help families when they are feeling tired and weary. For the days that are harder to get out of bed, help us find rest and surrender all of our worries to You. “Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) We pray for relationships between parents and their children. On days when patience is thin, and we feel exhausted provide the opportunity for meaningful conversations.
We pray for the students and their friendships. Open their hearts and minds to new teachers and friends. May you work through them to speak & act in a way that is respectful to their classmates. “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) May they be a friend at all times and remind students to treat others with love and compassion. “In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)
We thank you for all of the gifts that you have provided, especially the ability to learn. We pray that children have a hunger for learning this year and be able to use their abilities to think and learn (Proverbs 18:15). Each student has unique talents, abilities, and gifts that is necessary for the life that you have planned for them. May these gifts be used to serve you and accomplish your will. Pray that students have the right attitude towards learning, parents, teachers, and leaders who are guiding them. “Do all things without grumbling or disputing…” (Philippians 2:14)
Finally, we pray for your protection day by day. Protect our children and families going to and from home and keep them safe from any harm during the school day. Take us under your wing and give us comfort and peace. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Help us to trust in you always and follow your commandments every day. Amen.
