Hebrews 11:1-3 – Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
I seem to have two different ways that I approach God.
- Sometimes I approach him with my arms crossed, ready to pick a fight.
- Sometimes I approach him with my hands open, ready for him to work in my life.
Does this resonate with you?
My daughter tends to be like #1 in every area of her life. She’s 8 and in the “me mode” most of the time. She doesn’t like things that are hard, she wants me to do everything for her (unless it’s her idea to do them for herself), and she loves to blame others for everything.
When my arms are crossed when I approach God I am like my daughter. I’m usually in ‘me mode’ ready to demand and blame.
My son tends to be more like #2. He usually approaches conversations with questions. He likes to ponder things. He approaches most requests in humility and understands our perspective if we say no.
When I approach God with my hands open, laying all my cards before him and enter into my time with joy and expectation it changes everything.
It’s funny how a family can have such different personalities. I often ponder my own response to my kids when they approach me in different ways. It’s so hard sometimes to get through to my daughter. She always learns the hard way. Always.
How are you with God?
Are you ready for him to work in your life, open to his leading and guiding? Are you open-hearted and ready to see his will?
Or are you standing by ready to pick the battle? Do you generally learn the hard way?
God knows each of us. He knows our hearts. As you refresh your routines this fall, pick up your Bible and get back into prayer, consider if you are approaching God with faith, ready to watch him do his part.
God wants to work in your life. Let’s approach our time with anticipation and expectation on the wonder that is to come!
I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in your life!
