“And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.” Genesis 1:29
Do you have a husband like mine? My husband does not like sweets. His dessert of choice would be steak. But, he loves these cookies. They are so unique. They’re almost savory with just a touch of sweet. Give them a try and see what you think!
Sesame Cookies
- ½ cup sesame seeds
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 11 Tablespoons butter at room temperature
- ½ cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract (or vanilla)
- 1 large egg
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Toast the sesame seeds in a small frying pan over medium/low heat until they are golden brown. Watch them closely so they do not burn. Pour them into a cereal bowl to cool.
Combine the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and the extract (almond extract gives a nice nutty flavor) and mix well.
Stir in the flour and mix until combined.
Roll heaping Tablespoon-sized balls and dip them into the toasted sesame seeds to cover. Place them on the baking sheet and press gently on the top of each ball with your fingers to make a disc shape.
Bake for 14 – 16 minutes until the cookies are firm (but, not brown). Remove from the oven and leave them on the cookie sheet to cool.
This is an easy recipe to do with kids. I baked these with my granddaughter. She toasted the sesame seeds, rolled the dough balls into the seeds and pressed the tops down with her fingers.
I had to hurry and take a picture of these before they disappeared. Try them and see if your family loves them too!
Note: You can find sesame seeds in the Asian aisle of your grocery store and they are WAY cheaper than the sesame seeds on the spice aisle.
