It’s always a fun time at GrandPa and GrandMa’s for Church at Home. What we started when Churches were temporarily closed down has now grown to be part of our family’s weekly program.
Our Preschooler always hands out the music and our Kindergartener always takes the Bible reading. GrandPa usually gives the Sermon except when he delegates the honor to one of the adults.
After Service, GrandPa and I head to the kitchen to chat away fondly as we cook lunch. I find he’s done the meal prep already like boiled the meat and mixed the chapati dough (yes, it’s a standard) so it doesn’t take that long. Hubby then joins us in the kitchen to make chai our signature way of boiling fresh chopped ginger then adding tea bags and lastly milk.
The children at this point are out in the backyard playing. Today they had soccer balls. Their laughter is blissful. Children are indeed a gift from the Lord. They are a reward from Him (Psalm.127:3). GrandPa and I talk about how blessed we are as a family and thank God.
Food is ready and the children sit on their mat and thank Jesus. We enjoy a delicious home cooked meal. The children head back outside for more fun in the sun. They invented a new game that involves kicking the ball up a small hill till it hits the wire fence then they run down the hill as the ball chases them while they ensue in hearty laugher, only taking short breaks to hug Mummy who is reclined in a picnic chair outside with a book she claimed to bring out to read but instead spends the entire time watching them with joy filling her heart. And taking pictures. Of course.
Hubby does the dishes and stays in the house to chat with the Grand Parents. We hear sporadic bursts of loud laughter from the house. They are having fun, too.
We finally head home. Mummy gives the children a welcome bath and takes a much-needed nap herself. Daddy serves them dinner; they play around the house until it’s time for family bedtime prayers. Then pee, brush teeth and an early bedtime for the littles. The adults watch their TV series for a bit before calling it a night, too.
Taking stock of the day, I’m encouraged to be more intentional about slowing down, being present and enjoying the beauty that surrounds me as a Mom. A loving home, giggly and happy children that are being brought up to love and serve Jesus so that when they are old, they will not depart from Him (Proverbs.22:6).
Thank You Jesus for the gift of salvation and the blessing of a family that loves and serves You and each other.
