The Bible tells us that David paused 7 times a day to praise God. How powerful is that!?
Psalm.119:164 “Seven times a day do I praise you because of your righteous judgments.”
I can only imagine the peace, joy, grace and lightness that David experienced in his life once he chose to walk in the praise and worship of the Almighty God, irrespective of the circumstances.
David’s life is understandably different from mine given he lived in a different era and I’m a Mom not a King. But when I read through his writings in the Psalms, I see that he also experienced doubts, insecurities, anger, joy, excitement, fear, fatigue, betrayal, love, loyalty, purpose, confusion and all the amazing ups and trying downs of life like we all do.
He was a man just like us. And he praised God through it all. If there is something I would learn from the life of David, it is to praise God. He recognized God’s sovereignty in the good times and bad times alike. No wonder God calls David a man after His own heart.
No matter what you are going through, there is always a reason to praise God. The fact that you have been saved and redeemed by a God that loves you so passionately is one. The fact that you are alive and able to read this is indeed another reason for you to praise God at the top of your lungs! Like David said in Psalm. 115:17 the dead cannot praise the Lord. So, we who are alive must purposefully praise and worship God regardless of what we are going through. Good or bad, He remains God and He remains faithful to His promises to save, heal, comfort, deliver, prosper and bless all who trust in Him. We praise God for who He is and who He remains.
Our circumstances do not change God or what He stands for.
Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says,
“Give thanks in all circumstances for that is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus”.
This tells me that it is God’s will for me to be grateful, therefore, I make the choice to be grateful. I chose an attitude of gratitude.
When things are not going how I hoped they should, I choose to praise and thank God because He is still God even in the storm and I will anchor myself to Him till it passes.
I choose to praise and thank God in the good times because all good and perfect things come from God.
And like David, I pray for the grace and wisdom to pause several times a day to praise my God. Praising Him for who He is, who He will always be, what He has done for me in the past, what He is doing right now in my family and what He is yet to do.
Hallelujah! Praise God!
