Spring is here! My kids and I love to get out our spring-themed books, make a few seasonal treats and crafts, and get excited for all the fun that spring can bring! These days it’s been all about easy, no-fuss activities and recipes for us. If you’re looking for a simple way to add some spring fun to your little one’s week, here are some ideas!
For the Craft:
Rainy Day Umbrella
This is a fun rainy day craft that can be made many different ways!
What you need:
- White paper
- Black marker
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Blue paint
- Q tips
To start, draw an umbrella with a pencil and then trace over it with the black marker. If your kids are old enough, they can draw their own!
Kids can color in the umbrella any way they like! If you’re up for it, you could also get some watercolor paints out for this part.
My son added his own wind, clouds, and rain to the picture before painting the raindrops which I thought was perfect!
We had two shades of blue Crayola finger paint for our raindrops but one color is fine! Put a blob on a paper plate and dip the Q-tips. Put rain drop dots all over and voila! A perfect spring scene.
For the Treat:
Worms and Dirt
This classic spring treat is always a favorite! One of my kids doesn’t like gummy candy so we left them off. You could probably find a few alternatives to this recipe with the types of cookie and candy you’re using. Whatever your family likes!
What you need:
- Gummy worms
- Oreos (crushed)
- Sliced almonds or peanuts (optional)
- Chocolate pudding (homemade or instant!)
In whatever size cups you would like, pour in the chocolate pudding.
Add crushed Oreos and any other toppings you like.
Arrange gummy worms. Enjoy!
For the Book:
Let it Rain by Maryann Cocca-Leffler
This is such a fun book to read with your kids! Follow a family as they experience the wonders of gardening, rainstorms, and baby animals. The rhymes and pictures perfectly describe spring and will be sure to get you all excited for this time of year!
