As my Mom like to say, “parenting is not for cowards.” You need to be brave to parent because let’s face it, it is kind of scary knowing that you are in charge of nurturing and moulding this little human into the best version of themselves.
I’m often faced with the harsh reality concerning my shortcomings as a person, parent and Mom when it comes to raising a family. That as a human being, I often fall short. I need supernatural help to do what God has commissioned me to do as a parent, which is raise Godly seed. Malachi.2:15 Didn’t the LORD make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are His. And what does He want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.
In that regard, I would love to share some of the Bible verses I pray over myself as a Mom. Some days I pray them all, most days I focus on a few. Depending on what is going on in that particular season of my life and in our family. I constantly call on the Lord for help because I realize that I need Him every hour; for strength, for wisdom, for patience, for joy and for all that He knows I need even when I’m oblivious to it.
I pray that I will always be a joyful mother of our children.
Psalm 113:9 To be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
Not a stressed, overwhelmed, angry, tired, disengaged, frantic, insecure, worried mother. But a joyful mother, filling our home and the lives of our children with joy. Our children will see me joyful, and they too will desire for and receive joy from the Lord. Ours will be a joyful and joy filled home. Joy that comes from the Lord that nothing can diminish or take away.
I pray that I will build our children up and not tear them down.
Proverbs 14:1 A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.
That I will be firm and compassionate, training them up in the way they should go with love and discipline.
I pray for discernment, divine insight and understanding.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Every child is unique, I pray that God would reveal to me the induvial gift He has given each child and show me how to help them build it and us it for His glory. I pray that God will help me to guide and prepare each child to fulfil the individual call of God on their lives.
I pray for wisdom for parenting.
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
I pray that God would teach me what to do and how to raise our children.
Judges 13:9-10 Then Manoah prayed to the LORD, and said, “O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born.” God heard Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman while she was out in the field
For God to give me specific instructions on what to do, how and when. Also for God to grant me the grace to obey and follow His instructions.
I pray that God will strength my hands and ready them for the task of motherhood.
Proverbs 31:17 She equips herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] And makes her arms strong.
I pray that God will renew my strength each and ever day.
Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Being a Mom is one of the most rewarding and amazing things, but it also one of the most tiring. It is a vocation that takes so much of your strength physically, mentally and emotionally. With no vacation time. That is why the supernaturally renewed strength to run and not grow weary or walk and not faint is very important.
I pray that God will make me slow to anger and quick to forgive.
James 1:19-20 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
I pray that Jesus will help me, because I need Him. Without Him I can do nothing, that includes parenting.
John 15:4-5 He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
I pray that I will speak life into our children, home and family and not death.
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
We have it on good authority that prayer is an integral and vital part of the Christian walk. Jesus Himself says so in Luke.18:1 that we need to pray at all times and not lose heart. And as you pray, it is important to pray the will of God, that is why the prayers shared here are anchored on and based on the Word of God.
Lastly, be confident as you pray, knowing that our God not only hears us but answers our prayers!
1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.
