Malachi 4:6 “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.”
Our daughter made her dad a Father’s Day card way in advance. On Mother’s Day to be precise. And then she safely tucked it at the back of her closet, carefully wrapped in bubble wrap so that nothing would smash it. Brilliant! She charged her brother and I to keep all of this a secret because it is a surprise. I hope the hubby knows how special he is, how much thought, care, love and behind the scenes planning has gone into this precious handmade card, crafted just for him. It’s no small feat to be treasured and honored by your children. And one I feel so blessed to witness in our family.
I hope you enjoy making these Father’s Day origami shirt cards as much as we did.
And as you make them with your children, please take the time to thank God for the gift of a father in the home. Pray a blessing over him as the priest, that he will hear from God and follow Christ Jesus’ direction as he leads the family.
If the father in the home does not follow Jesus as Lord and Savor, use this opportunity to pray for the Holy Spirit to convict him and cause him to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Psalm 128:3-4 Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house, your children like olive plants around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
What you need:
• Scissors
• Glue
• Buttons
• Cardstock / Construction paper
• Embellishments (small pom poms, buttons, ribbon)
Instructions:
Draw patterns on the paper. This will determine the design of the shirt.
Fold the paper lengthwise with the patterned side facing out.
Open it up again and fold each side of the paper in to meet the middle fold, still with the patterned side facing out.
Turn the paper over and fold up the bottom part 1 inch.
Flip the paper over again and at the end where you folded the paper over by 1 inch, fold in the corners to meet the center also about 1 inch from the top. This will create the collar of the shirt.
On the opposite end, fold out each side of the paper, so that the solid side is showing. Both sides should mirror each other.
Fold up the bottom and tuck it under the folded collar to complete the origami shirt card.
Cut a piece of solid cardstock or construction paper small enough to fit inside the card. Unfold the top and glue the paper inside. This is where you will write your message, draw picture or add a photo if you prefer.
Finish the card with embellishments like pom poms, a ribbon tie or buttons.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and
father-figures out there!
