Summer is almost over, and we have to grab every bit of outdoor time that we can. Edible Terrariums are the perfect snack for these happy, sunny days. Let the kids help make them, or surprise them with a miniature garden that they can eat!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Glasses
- Instant chocolate pudding
- Milk
- Chocolate rocks
- Chocolate mushrooms
- Pistachios (or graham crackers)
- Edible flowers
Instructions:
Gather four or more glasses (depending on how much pudding you make). I bought glass vases from the floral department of the dollar store. Thrift stores are another good source, or just use what you have at home.
Follow the directions on the box of instant chocolate pudding. I used two boxes and doubled the recipe.
While the pudding is setting, drop a few chocolate rocks into the bottom of each glass.
Carefully spoon pudding into each glass.
Grind pistachios or graham crackers in a food processor (or whack them in a sandwich bag with a rolling pin). Spoon the crumbs on top of the pudding.
Now for the fun part! Decorate the tops with chocolate rocks and mushrooms. Head into the yard and pick unsprayed, edible flowers. I used mint sprigs, lavender, and violas. Add the plants to your terrariums.
And that’s it, an edible terrarium that your kids can eat!
Notes: Try crushed Oreo cookies for the crumbs. Make butterscotch pudding instead of chocolate. Find sugar shapes to add to your gardens (ladybugs, flowers, etc.). Perhaps, you might want to add a miniature doll or an army man. Go wild!
“Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.” Genesis 2:8
