Our October Cookie-of-the-Month is a real winner! A pairing of a traditional chocolate chip cookie, PLUS chocolate and orange, makes these extra special.
I love chocolate and orange together. The bright citrus notes compliment the deep chocolate flavor perfectly. Even my chocolate-hating husband loved these!
Try these and see if you don’t agree.
Chocolate-Orange Fall Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
2 ½ cups flour
1 Tablespoon baking cocoa
Orange zest from 1 orange
1 bag chocolate chips
Yellow and red food coloring
Instructions:
- Heat oven to 375 degrees. Line your cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream the butter and both sugars together for 1-2 minutes or until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
- Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the dough and stir in.
- Add the flour, a half cup at a time, until it’s all blended in.
- Separate the dough into three even portions. Add a tablespoon of baking cocoa to one section, the orange peel and food coloring to another, and leave the third portion plain. Add 1/3 of a bag of chocolate chips to each portion.
7. Pinch off a bit of each color dough and line them up in your hand. Roll them gently into a ball, flatten slightly.
8. Bake for 8-10 minutes (depending on how big you make your cookies). The cookies will firm up as they cool. Wait for 5 minutes before removing to a rack to cool completely.
Just be careful! These are so good, you’ll be tempted to eat more than one!
