Judges 13:12 – Manoah then asked, “When your promise comes true, what rules must the child obey and what will be his work?”
What Manoa asked the angel of the Lord when he was told that they were going to have a son resonates with me so much. I think about how we are to train the children God has blessed us with. Some of the questions that ran through my mind are: am I doing it right? Am I training them the right way? Did I miss something? I find myself coming to God often, feeling inadequate, under qualified and having no idea how to handle certain situations seeing as I have never been a parent before. I do not have previous work experience in this field. I ask the Lord how to teach and train them the way He wants them to be trained. This is Godly seed, God’s heritage, and God’s image bearers. I do not want to mess it up. Often, I feel like I’m messing it up, so I talk to God in my heart as I go about my day, telling Him how much I need Him to just take over and show me, teach me what to teach them. I also desire to be joyful as I do it. Claiming the promises of God in Psalm 113:9 to be a joyful mother of my children.
Our loving Heavenly Father is what we all aspire to be as parents. God shows love, patience, kindness, mercy, guidance, and faithfulness to us His children. Allowing Him to teach us would be learning from the best there is.
Once I cry out to God for help, I do not always feel any change physically, and that is where faith comes in. I must trust and believe that He is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do. He is faithful and just and says He will answer all who call on Him. No one who trusts in Him will ever be put to shame. God is very firm on the aspect of faith. He is very particular when it comes to faith, and we see this in Hebrews 11:6 where He has said without faith it is impossible to please Him. So, as I raise this Godly seed, my goal is to be pleasing to God from Whom this blessing comes. God says that if I don’t have faith, it is impossible to please Him. He does not mean it is hard to please Him or difficult to please Him, but it is impossible. The good news is that all I need is faith as small as a mustard seed. Even the tiniest of faiths will please Him. Just like the man who brought his sick child to Jesus confessed, I believe; help my unbelief.
Let us bring our small, wavering faith to God and watch Him multiply and grow it by His faithfulness. As we walk in that small faith, it grows. Much like the exercising of a muscle consistently will grow it, so it is with faith in God. It may start out small but will surely grow as we chose to exercise it and put it to use by trusting God.
Recalling the faithfulness of God in the past reassures us. Taking stock of how God has held your hand and led you through difficult times, bringing you across to safety not only unharmed but stronger and wiser.
God will never turn a deaf ear to the cry of His children. Once we still ourselves in His presence and ask Him for the wisdom to train our children up in the way that they should go, according to the specific path He has ordained for each of them, He will answer.
God wants the best for us, our children, and families. He promises to answer all who call on Him and will give wisdom generously to all who ask without finding fault or favor. (James 1:5) The only condition is to have faith. That’s it. Come to God, ask of Him, believe He has answered and watch Him work!!! God provides us with help and guidance through scripture, through the witness of the Holy Spirit and through the Godly men and women that He has placed in your life. Our part is to have the posture and attitude of young Samuel who said speak Lord, for your servant is listening.
I’m so grateful that God loves you and me and I thank God because He is an ever-present help.
Psalm 25:4-5 – Show me Your ways, LORD, teach me Your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.
