My daughter and her friends were bored one rainy day on their mid-winter break from school recently. So bored in fact that they liked an idea I had that I never would have thought middle schoolers would be into.
I told them to make leprechaun traps since St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on March 17.
It’s amazing what boredom mixed with mom shutting down screentime for a bit can do.

The girls almost immediately went to work finding things around the house that would work for their traps. It ended up keeping them busy for over an hour, which was incredible. They actually came up with some really cute ideas!
It’s a great project to use up things you want to get rid of because truly anything goes. Half a sheet of stickers, almost empty bottles of glitter and some old yarn? Sure, throw that in there as a way to entice the Leprechaun to jump on in! The only thing you want to make sure you have is some sort of container. Could be a shoe box, Amazon box, a jar or anything that the Leprechaun can maybe get trapped in.

Spoiler alert: we have never actually caught a Leprechaun. But each year, we have woken up to find he did in fact get lured into the trap because the container is always ransacked (candy we put in there will be missing etc). He is little so he must always find a way to then escape.
Here is a video of my daughter and her friends making their traps this year. Check it out for some ideas.
Have fun!
