Growing up, Christmas was magical. It stayed cozy and familiar as you grew into adulthood and returned to magic once you had your first child and you got to see Christmas anew through their eyes.
But then they grew. And maybe you welcomed more children. And the sparkly magic wore off and all that was left was busy, stressed, and overwhelmed.
But still, you spend the whole year looking forward to Christmas, hoping that this year it will finally feel like it used to. And now, it’s finally here and you remember that it’s not as awesome as it used to be.
All your energy is spent making Christmas magical for everyone else, and even though you do enjoy all the activity of the season, you’re worn out.
Give yourself grace this Christmas season. Say no to a thing or two. {Or four.} Buy fewer gifts. Skip a tradition this year. Only do the activities that you really enjoy.
The real magic of the season is not that which you create, but the simplicity of the gift that was given.
Simplicity.
Slow down and celebrate the season for the reason we celebrate it in the first place. Don’t worry about making it magic for your kids – teach them to see the magic for themselves.
This gift of Christmas was given for all of us to enjoy.
And mama, that includes you.
