Okay moms, this is it.
We are in the final weeks of summer.
For some of you around the nation, it’s only a couple weeks away. For others, we still have a bit of time left. But either way, we are coming down to the line before the crazy hits and we are sucked back into the madness that is the beginning of the school year.
So in hopes of lightening the mood before the busy, I had an idea. This week, I sent out an open call on my Facebook page for my friends’ favourite back-to-school funny stories. I’m pretty pleased with what I got in return.
They ranged from things like…
“They put me on the wrong bus on the first day of kindergarten.”
To things like…
“I sat down in a desk on my first day of freshman year and it collapsed under me in front of my entire fourth period class.”
Here are a few more…
“When my son started first grade he forgot to get off the bus on his way home. When the bus driver finished his route he asked him where he lived and he said he didn’t know!”
“My first day of kindergarten had been such a fun and exciting day, and I’d met a little boy who was my new friend. I was so wound up and excited on the way home on the bus that I threw up on him… In my favorite striped tights!”
“On my son’s first day of riding the school bus, he fell asleep and didn’t get off the bus! The bus went back to the garage! I called the school to let them know that he never got off the bus and the bus driver went to the back of the bus and found him sound asleep!”
“I remember my mom always telling me to wear underwear in case you got in an accident. So when I started grade one or two I didn’t wear any and decided to play on the monkey bars! The teacher brought me in to ask me why I wasn’t wearing any and I told her that I didn’t want to get in an accident and miss school!”
Man, those stories were fun to watch pop up on my newsfeed! However I will say that it doesn’t make me all that excited for my son’s first day of school next year, a lot of traumatizing kindergarten stories!
For my own funny story, I have always been a relatively small-statured person. And my mom, being devoted to safe transportation, followed the guidelines of car seats/booster seats right to the letter. Want to know what that meant for me?
Yep, at 4’10” and 75 lbs, I went to my first day of 7th grade in a booster seat.
I really think it was more for her entertainment, but I digress.
I’m glad to know that there are funny stories out there to share and laugh about as we head back into fall. Besides, who doesn’t need a good laugh at themselves every once in a while?
