It is that time of year when parents begin looking at the calendar and realizing summer is looming ahead and they need to find something to keep their kids busy. If you are on the fence about summer camp for your child, we want to show you the profound benefits it can have on them, building skills in them that will last a lifetime. We sat down with Black Diamond Camps to ask a few questions. Here is what we learned.
How does summer camp develop leadership skills for youth?
Camp develops self-confidence and self-esteem which is profoundly important for children as they move in life. Through activities and diverse opportunities, camp is such a booster providing them things to succeed in. Children are also given the opportunity to try new things, fail and try again. Counselors and staff help children to become more resilient and grow as an individual and team player.
How does camp help develop relationship skills?
Working closely with other campers is part of every camp experience. This helps shape our young people as they learn to respect one another, work together, be themselves, find friends who are similar to them and learn to resolve disagreements if and when they happen. Community is an essential part of any workplace and school environment and working on those skills is essential!
How does camp develop problem-solving skills?
Tough issues are tackled head-on with straight talk – uncompromisingly Biblical truth, laced with grace, and delivered with humility. Along with practicing skills in teamwork and learning to get along with those we may disagree with, camp is an opportunity to dig into real life issues.
Summer camp is an experience like no other. Give your children the opportunity to flourish, develop essential life skills and grow new relationships. You won’t regret it!
