Day one of spring cleaning was focused on a good surface clean to help jump start that satisfaction of a clean house. I love giving my house a regular surface clean but every now and then a deep clean is a must. Especially on areas like bathrooms. Remember, don’t bite off too much by attempting more than one bathroom at a time. Start with one and then see how you feel.
Here are my tips for a good bathroom deep clean.
• Start by taking everything out of the shower and countertops. Everything.
• Get rid of any empty bottles that might still be around or refilling them if you re-use.
• Take out the garbage can and empty it.
• Dust off counters and your toilet. I notice if I go straight into a cleaning solution that sometimes I end up with a ton of wet lint so I always like to first dust off anything that might be on the surface.
• Vacuum the floors. I like to vacuum first so that all hair and dirt is picked up prior to any mopping action beginning.
>>> If you are feeling really motivated, vacuum out bathroom drawers too
• Pick your poison. Cleaner that is.
>>> I prefer ¾ cup Dawn dish soap to about 1 cup white vinegar in a bowl and I use that as my cleaner for everything including glass shower doors.
• Wipe down all shower surfaces as well as counter tops and sinks.
>>> For my shower, I will use a sponge to coat the glass and let it sit for several minutes before rinsing it off. I typically just take a shower at the end of my deep clean and rinse the doors off that way since it’s easier if I am just fully in the shower.
• If you happen to be noticing tiny bugs around your house they might be drain flies. Follow these steps for your with baking soda and vinegar for your bathroom sink and shower drain.
• Outside of toilet. Using a separate cleaning cloth, wipe down the toilet including on the floor all around the base of it. I like using some sort of Q tip or stick to really get at any stubborn grime. It’s not a glamorous job but a necessary one.
• Clean the inside of the toilet. I like using some sort of wand.
• Floors. We have a small primary bathroom so I scrub my floors on my hands and knees. If you have a larger area, mop the area with your cleaner of choice. I like just using hot water and a small amount of Tide.
• Wipe down mirrors and shower doors. After I use my dish soap and vinegar concoction on my shower doors, I like rinsing and wiping them dry and then taking a final step of glass cleaner to really help them shine on both sides.
• Wipe down all items before they go back into the bathroom.
• Take a step back and admire your hard work!
