Winter is here and that means you are probably spending more time inside with your little ones! One of my favorite things to do is read books with my kids, and what a perfect time of year to get cozy with some winter reading adventures! There are so many incredible children’s books to choose from, but I’ve narrowed down some of my family’s favorites and hope that you will get a chance to enjoy them with your kids this winter!
1.Baby Loves Winter by Karen Katz
This adorable lift-the-flap book is perfect for toddlers. They will be so excited to discover what fun winter picture is behind each flap! My kids have all been crazy about Karen Katz books and this one is a chilly treat for little ones!
Your toddlers and preschoolers will be delighted to join Thing One and Thing Two as they enjoy all the things that winter brings in this fun rhyming story!
3. Winter in the Forest by Rusty Finch
Follow two raccoons through the forest on a winter day as they experience snowflakes, frozen ponds, and frosty gardens in this sweet lift-a-flap story!
4. Just a Snowman by Mercer Mayer
Crunch through the snow with Little Critter on his mission to build a snowman! Younger children are sure to be entertained by the humorous pictures and fun snow-day activities.
5. Curious George Makes Maple Syrup Adaptation by C.A. Krones
No season is complete without Curious George! Follow that monkey through the Maple trees as he learns how to get more syrup for his pancakes. It’s both educational and fun for kids to discover how things are made, especially syrup!
6. Milk and Cookies by Frank Asch
This book has always been a favorite of mine. Although it is great any time of year, it does take place in winter so I keep it with our seasonal books. It’s a sweet and simple story about a little bear, a dragon, and of course, cookies! Bake up some cookies of your own and enjoy this story with your younger children on a chilly, winter day!
7. Learning to Ski with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen
This hilarious winter tale follows a man and his dog on their first skiing adventure. Mr. Magee, his snowy mishap, and a hungry moose are certain to delight preschoolers and grade schoolers alike!
8. Snowmen at Night by Carolyn Buehner
Who doesn’t love snowmen? This is such a fun and imaginative story. Your kids will have a blast finding the hidden pictures throughout this book as they discover what snowmen might really be up to at night!
