I began a new practice several weeks ago. A visible way for my kids to see that I’ve prayed for them. Mamas, doesn’t it feel good to get that phone call or text out of the blue with someone assuring you that they have been praying for you? Well, I wanted my kids to experience that feeling too so I came up with this simple idea. On a plain, white index card I wrote each of their names and when I sit down to pray for them, I place one dot on the card.
I spend time in prayer for my children regularly. I pray for their future spouses, for their decision making, for them to have good friends in their lives. I pray scripture over them (Philippians 4:6-7, Ephesians 3:18). I pray for their health and their salvation. And although I tell them that I pray for them and I think they know that I pray for them, I think it has been really neat for them to see my little prayer dots for them.
I have found this to be a simple, fun, tangible way for my kids to see how cherished and loved they are. It has also allowed me to be more deliberate in my prayer time and gives some natural accountability because I know they are watching to see how quickly their cards are filling up.
