With the kids being home 24/7, this means they have all the time in the world to be messing up any efforts we put into having a clean house. Last weekend my husband commented that I was standing at the kitchen sink every time he walked upstairs. Yes, because being home somehow also means mom has a revolving sink of dishes to be done. It also means I have become even more aware of things like finger smudges on, well, on everything! However, there is one area I cannot blame my kids on. Our master bathroom shower.
I am used to having a house cleaner once a month to help with big deep clean types of things. But stay at home orders mean services like that are no more for the time being. For those of you who are used to always doing the deep cleaning, gold star for you. I was mortified the other day when I realized just how gross my glass shower doors looked.
I immediately sprayed it with glass cleaner, wiped it all down and smiled to myself thinking about how good it would now look. Nope. In hindsight I don’t know why I thought glass cleaner would be my answer for something that had dried soap scum on it. I pulled out the big guns. I looked on you tube to see what tips I could find.
Moms, I was amazed at how well this tip worked on my entire shower so I have to share.
Here is all you need:
- 1 cup Dawn dish soap
- 1 cup White Vinegar
- Sponge or rag
- Mixing bowl
What you will do:
- Mix the ingredients in a bowl. I simply put on cleaning gloves and mixed it with my hands and the sponge.
- Generously layer it onto the glass shower doors. It’s best to use a sponge so you can be rubbing the mixture on while also getting a thick layer that will stay. Note, I was in shorts and bare footed because it is impossible to not get some of the mixture on you. Be sure you coat the entirety of the glass.
- You can also spray the mixture and this might be a good idea for more of a maintenance clean.
- Let this sit for about 10 minutes.
- You can do this any way you like but I decided to just take a shower and then spray it down at the end with our removable shower head. It would be hard to rinse and not get pretty wet so I found this option to work best. You can also use that mixing bowl and just keep filling it with water to rinse if your shower heard is not removable.
- You can also use this same mixture on the entire shower! I scrubbed the shower floor and tile walls as the glass doors were sitting coated in the mixture. Then I simply rinsed.
- Wipe down with a dry towel so you can see how sparkly clean it is.
Moms, it was so easy and best of all, my husband noticed the efforts! Give this a try and let us know if you have any helpful tips!
