I read a story today about a gal named Kim. She dumpster dived to survive. One day she was met by an employee of Abraham’s House Charity. Kim would meet by the charity dumpsters because she heard they specifically left items outside for the homeless. She was right. The employee talked and prayed with her. They found out that her fiancée had passed away and as a result she lost her place to live and had been staying in her car. They were able to help her find a place, furnish her home and things began looking up.
Why do I tell you this story? All of us need help at one time or another. I think one of the most valuable things I try to teach my children is how to look for ways to serve those around you. Sometimes the need is obvious. Other times it isn’t.
Abraham’s House Charity has some great ways we can all partner together this summer to help each other by both giving and receiving!

What is Abraham’s House Charity?
Abraham’s House is a 501 c3 non-profit organization that takes in donations of material goods and gives 90% of those items away free of charge to those in need. They are funded by selling antiques and collectibles.
What is the Festival of Giving?
The festival of giving is coming to the Tacoma Dome August 13th, 2022 10am – 3pm! This event is completely FREE! If you are in need, please come! Abraham’s House Charity will have 10 semi-truck loads of FREE furniture, beds, clothing, household goods, décor, bikes, toys, washers and dryers and appliances. Tons of misc items as well.
How Can I Get Involved?
Get Involved by Volunteering
- August 11th 9am-6pm we need help unloading the 12 semis full of furniture and goods-strong back needed.
- August 12th 9am-6pm we need help staging and setting up all the donations on the arena floor.
- August 13th 9am-5pm we need help serving the community during the giveaway and assisting with load outs and clean up after the event.
Donate Items
If You Would Like to Donate Items schedule your pick up online or drop off during business hours Tues. to Fri. 10am – 5pm! (Pickup only available in Kitsap County).
Involve Your kids
You can participate in the Festival of Giving by bringing your own donations from home and giving them away personally. Bring your own tables and chairs and set up what you would like to give! Just remember that anything left goes home with you. This is a great way to teach generosity to your children. You can find out more or sign up to do so online!
I always love finding ways to purge in the summer. It’s my personal mission to have my kids go through everything in the house. Last week we went through stuffed animals. My son was giving away a couple that I posted on the free group for our community and I received a note back from the mom that her son was having a great time with his new toys and was so thrilled. My son felt so good about passing along his items to someone who could once again find joy in them. I love that!
