Food allergies and sensitivities can really put a damper on fall fun for a lot of kids. Thankfully, in recent years initiatives like The Teal Pumpkin Project have brought attention to this need and more people are distributing Halloween treats that appeal to a wider variety of kids.
Individual allergies vary widely, but if you’re interested in offering some allergy-friendly options to trick-or-treaters this year, here are some suggestions – directly from moms who deal with these allergies every day.
Safer Edible Options:
- Dum dums
- Skittles
- Starburst candy
- Fruit snacks/gummies (a natural brand without synthetic food dyes)
- Rice Krispies Treats (packaged/store-bought)
- Fruit cups (pre-packaged)
Non-Edible Options:
- Glow sticks
- Stickers
- Yo-yos
- Silly straws
- Mini play-doh
- Spider rings
- Party poppers
- Bouncy balls
- Pencils
- Erasers
- Coins
- Bubbles
- Temporary tattoos
Some great places to buy non-edible “treats” are:
- The Dollar Store
- Target’s Dollar Spot
- Party Store (look for party favors)
- …AND some moms even said Costco had a bag of non-candy Halloween treats this year!
