Raise your hand if you are the best mother in your community. If you know that you are 100x a better mother than the mom living beside you, across from you and/or behind you, please raise your hand in this moment.
I am pretty certain that no reader is raising their hand right now. As mothers, we are so hard on ourselves and are constantly comparing ourselves to others which makes us not consider ourselves the best.
Today, I want to remind you that you are the best mother in the room, the neighborhood, town, and world. AND If you ever find yourself comparing your journey in motherhood to others, I have 3 concepts that I want you to remember about yourself to encourage you otherwise.
Concept 1: Authenticity – being genuine and real and not being false or copied.
Dr. Seuss said it best, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You!” You are you and no one is more youer than you. You were built to be a mother to your child.
I had to learn this when my son’s father started introducing different women he was dating to my son. The thought of Romeo calling someone else mom used to break my heart. It would strike so much anger and insecurity inside of me that I didn’t want him to meet any of his father’s potential love interests. Eventually, I realized the principle of authenticity and matured my mindset. I carried my child for 40 weeks. I have worked relentlessly day and night to provide for my child. No one can ever compare to the love and bond that has been made between me and my son. Once I realize the previously stated, I was free. If I saw a picture of Romeo with another woman on social media, it no longer bothered me because I knew the love Romeo and I have is authentic and real and cannot be copied.
Please take this concept as encouragement to know you as a mother cannot be duplicated or copied. This was a thoughtful partnership made in heaven that allowed you and your child to be matched. No one could ever be a better to your child than you because you were made for each other!
Concept 2: Resilience- the power or ability to return to the original form or position after being bent compressed, or stretched
Rocky said this best, “It ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.”
My mother is a survivor of domestic violence. While I was young, she would tolerate the mental and physical abuse and still make sure my brother and I had everything we needed. When I was 11 years old and preparing for my first year in middle school, my mom had to have surgery. Two days after discharge, she escaped our home during a house fire. We were devastated. Everything we knew and loved was gone and we lost everything as our foundation. During this time as she was building for us to get back on our feet, my father left her and went to live with his mistress which led to divorce. My mother didn’t waiver or falter. She stood strong. Not only was she resilient but my brother and I had no clue that our mother was going through that at the time. We were smiling and crazy kids that lived a great childhood despite her obstacles. That’s what makes motherhood amazing.
You have your own journey that you’ve experienced as a mom to get to this moment, and you made it look good. Setbacks and obstacles in life haven’t crippled you, it made you stronger. You have taken every situation life throws at you as an opportunity to make you tougher and you should be proud of yourself.
Concept 3: Sacrifice -the act of giving up something you want to keep in order to get or do something else.
Eric Thomas said this best, “Sacrifice is … to be able at any moment to give up what you are for what you will become.” You gave up aspects of who you were to become a better mom.
Many of you reading this post have given up something for the betterment of your children, whether its sleep, your social life, school, your dream career, or more! No one will ever fully understand what all you have sacrificed to be the best mother you can to your children. Just think about all the things you sacrificed to be an amazing mother to your child. You are so selfless. How dare you NOT think you are the best mom. You are the best without a doubt. Pat yourself on the back because you deserve it!
Authenticity, Resilience, and Sacrifice should remind you of how great you truly are. Each and every one of you are the best mom because you are the best you, you can possibly be; having overcame a lot to raise that human today and you didn’t let it break you; and most of all you’ve sacrificed many things that you know you wanted but couldn’t keep in order to become the better mom and provide. That’s amazing. You are amazing. You are awesome. And with that I will ask this question one more time and I hope to feel more hands than I did before. Are you the best mom in your community?
