The children and I enjoyed collecting wild flowers for our craft project: flower vase. I recycled an old cereal box and drew some vases on the blank side. You could have the children draw and color their own vases and show off their art skill. Then poke some holes through, stick the flower stalks through the holes and voila: Flower art! A beautiful cardboard flower vase.
What you need
- Recycled cardboard box
- Permanent marker
- Scissors
- Screw driver/pen
Directions
- Cut out a piece of cardboard per vase.
- Draw a vase on each cut out using a permanent marker. Tap into your creative side and use different designs and shapes for each vase.
- Using scissors, a screw driver or pen, poke holes into the cardboard above each vase.
- Here comes the fun part! Go out to the park, the backyard or where ever wild flowers are to be found.
- Create beautiful flower art by sticking the flower stalks through the holes so that the flowers are on display in your vase.
- Lastly, display the cardboard flower vase where everyone can admire its beauty or better yet give it to a loved one as a thoughtful and precious gift.
Personally, this activity is one of my favorite nature crafts to do with the children. It keeps them busy in such a creative way as they come up with different vase designs and flower arrangements. For the littler ones, it has the added benefit of helping to develop their fine motor skills as they learn to stick the flowers through the holes.
