“Are you the real Santa?” my five-year-old daughter asked a Santa Claus we saw during a Christmas Festival we attend each year. He told her to tug on his beard. If you have seen Miracle on 34th Street, it was straight out of that movie. In that moment, I could almost feel her excitement when she tugged and realized his beard was real and so that must mean he is the real deal.
Moments like these fill my heart and encourage me to continue including things like Santa, Elf on the Shelf and other “Christmas magic” into our Christmas traditions.
But it is important that those traditions also include things like the real meaning of Christmas.
After my daughter met the “real” Santa that night, I couldn’t help but pipe in to remind her of why we actually celebrate Christmas. She giggled and told me she knows and then went on to tell me all about the night Jesus was born.
While none of us know exactly what happened on that night, I will say that my five-year-old’s interpretation of what she had been learning in school was pretty funny. I wasn’t on point with my phone in hand to video it unfortunately. However, I came across this video that hysterically sums up Christmas Night according to (some) kids.
Enjoy.
