When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
True to His priorities, God first revealed Himself to those who needed Him the most. The poor, lower-class, shepherds were the first to receive His birth announcement. And how did they respond? They hurried to see Him.
There was no doubt in their hearts … how could there be when a sky full of angels had told them the good news? Without a thought to their sheep, the shepherds hurried to find Jesus. What a privilege to be invited in to see a newborn baby – ESPECIALLY this baby!
And then what did they do? They spread the word! They told everyone they could find. And the people were amazed at the news. Shepherds were the first evangelists! They just couldn’t stop praising God and telling everyone.
There are people all over the world, of every occupation and social status, who follow Jesus. We are a family, called to share the Good News with the world!
QUESTION: Who first told you about Jesus? Who can you share the Good News of the Gospel with today?
PRAYER: Father, help me be like the shepherds who heard about You, worshipped You, and told everybody about You. Fill my heart with their zeal for Your kingdom and Your glory. Amen.
