It’s that time of year again, CHRISTMAS MOVIES!
From cheesy rom-coms to animated stories from our youth, it just wouldn’t be the holiday season without watching a few Christmas movies. And there are so many to choose from! No matter where your taste lies, there’s a holiday movie for you.
My son is quite sure that the Die Hard movies are actually holiday movies (violence and bad language). We watched all of them while eating warm Chex Mix one year. I’m not sure why Chex Mix seemed to belong, but it did and that made me wonder what other Christmas movie and food match-ups I could come up with.
Elf – This one is easy; spaghetti and meatballs (maple syrup optional). My youngest grandson has already watched Elf ten times this year. He loves it. How great would it be to add spaghetti to his next viewing? He’d probably want to try it with maple syrup!
Home Alone 1 – Pizza! Pizza played such a big part in this movie. We like to order pizza every Christmas Eve anyway and give the driver an extra big tip. Adding “Home Alone” to this tradition would make it even more fun.
Home Alone 2 – When Kevin orders those hot fudge sundaes from the Plaza, my mouth just waters. Be prepared for the cravings and make your own sundaes at home. Get as many gooey toppings as you can!
The Grinch – Do you know there are three Grinch movies now? My new favorite is “The Grinch”. I think every movie would benefit from the addition of screaming goats and this retelling does that! Anyway, all three versions have “roast beast” as part of the story line. Grab a rotisserie chicken from the deli, add a couple of sides, and you have the perfect Grinch movie night.
Shop Around the Corner – I love this old black and white movie. In the final scene, chicken noodle soup and apple strudel are offered to a young man spending Christmas alone. Canned soup and a baked (from frozen) strudel are more than fine for a viewing party.
Polar Express – This is another easy one, Hot Chocolate and cookies! Yum.
Meet Me in St. Louis – This is a classic starring Judy Garland, and it is one of my favorite movies. In the movie, the women make their own ketchup to bottle. Everyone in the family has their own idea of how it should be made. Why not bake some French fries with ketchup to dip them in. Thank goodness we don’t have to make our own ketchup anymore!
Do you have any additions to my list? What other pair-ups can you think of? Leave them in comments below!
