We are sharing a series of blogs focused specifically on praying over the new school year. For the next 10 days we will be praying over parents, teachers, administrators, support staff and students. Please share your prayer in the comments or join us on Facebook to post your prayer there!
Father:
We lift up your name as the God who knows all things, who is the Alpha and Omega, and who loves us enough to meet our needs in ways that are more than we can ask or think. You alone deserve our praise.
We are grateful for the many blessings of the past school year. Even in the hard times, we saw your sustaining protection and your provision for each need. You taught us to rely always and only on You, that you will “keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3 ESV)
Thank you for each child that you have entrusted to the families of this beautiful Puget Sound area. Each one is an awesome responsibility, and we can only raise them “in the way they should go” with Your help. (Proverbs 22:6)
We thank you for your protection around each family as they live “in” family. Your word says in Psalm 32:7, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” (NIV) We claim that for each family. Give dads and moms, brother and sisters a special love for each other. Pour out acceptance, forgiveness, and reconciliation on each family member. Protect each heart from anger, from apathy, and from selfishness, and instead give your joy, your life, and the ability to put others first.
Father, we also trust you to bind the hearts of dads and moms to each other. Give them hearts and eyes for each other only, and meet their every emotional need.
We pray discernment over every parent as they navigate the challenges of a world that is becoming more and more separated from your truth. In a culture where what was once unimaginable, is now hardly questioned, provide opportunities for genuine discussion and exploration of how we stay faithful to your Word. Give dads and moms the right words to say for the difficult discussions that need to take place as they raise their children to know the difference between what honors you and what brings harm to their souls.
We pray wisdom and a seeking of your heart as each parent considers the best place to educate their children this fall. Each child is unique; move in each parent to find the school option that will provide spiritual growth and encouragement, motivating challenge, and bring joy in learning.
You are the perfect father, saying no when that is best, saying yes when it means we will grow to be more like you, and sometimes asking us to wait, when the best answer is still in the making. Call us to be patient, to be willing to listen for your voice, so that we become more like you.
We love and trust you. In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray, Amen
