Raise your hand if you have more amazon boxes than you care to admit! Before you throw them out in guilt, here is a fun nature craft that upcycles cardboard into a beautiful piece of art.
Being outside in nature is one of the best things for children and human being in general. Nature has such a calming and refreshing effect, that is why in the beginning, God planted a garden for Adam and Even and placed them in it.
I enjoy finding simple and fun activities for our children that keep them busy in the great outdoors. This craft fits well in that category because it only takes a few minutes to set up and uses materials that you already have at home.
All you need is:
- Cardboard
- Packing Tape (clear)
- Scissors
- And nature will provide the rest, namely: flowers, grass and leaves.
Instructions:
1. Cut a square out of a cardboard box. Choose a size that is easy enough for your children to carry around and work with.
2. Cut out another square in the middle of the first one so that you are left with a cardboard frame.
3. Cover one side of the frame with clear packing tape, making sure that each tape line overlaps the first just a bit.
4. Flip the frame over and it will be sticky.
5. Cut out little tree trunks using the left-over scraps of cardboard and place one on the sticky side of each frame.
6. Now the fun part: head outside into nature and let your children create beautiful flower trees by sticking grass, leaves, sticks and flowers to the frame.
If possible, make several cardboard frames ahead of time so you and the children try out as many combinations of differently colored flowers as you can.
