If you’re anything like me, you struggle to fully explain the significance of Easter to your kids. I tend to either over-simplify things, or give far too many details, which does little more than confuse and overwhelm them.
So I frequently find myself failing to even try, which isn’t the right answer, either. Not on purpose, of course. But just because I’m too overwhelmed myself to know where to begin.
But I’m learning that I’m not giving my kids enough credit. This year my daughter came home from preschool with Resurrection Eggs, a dozen numbered plastic eggs each filled with a prompt to help her remember different parts of the Easter story.
And as she sat in the living room and re-told it to me, I was mesmerized.
How could this little brain recount so many details?
I’m not so naive that I believe she understands every little part of the story. But I do know that she’s building a foundation, and that as she grows more of the pieces will begin to make sense.
I’m so grateful for teachers who are gifted in helping even our littlest children learn, and for these Resurrection Egg keepsakes that we’ll tuck away to bring out next year…and the year after that…and the year after that.
If you want to learn more about Resurrection Eggs and how to make a set for yourself, there are instructions all over the internet with different prompt ideas. Here’s one. Here’s another. You can even buy a completed one on Amazon.
And if you want to see what Easter looks like explained by a preschooler…well, here you go. {And yes, she watches far too many toy unboxing videos on YouTube.} 😉
